Work is underway designing tiny robotic cubes imbedded with magnets on each plane that can create a duplicate of any object, either equal in size to the original or any size version as required. Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Robotics department are currently working with two dimensional cubes of four sides, each cube containing a microprocessor with 32 kilobytes capacity and 2 kilobytes of working memory. All the cubes are linked in a flat chain mail form which when surrounding a pre set shape can pass a message to their neighbour which will then pass the information further along the chain allowing a second group of cubes to recreate the original pre set shape. Further research will eventually make possible the same as described in 2D, but in 3D with a group of tiny 6 sided robot cubes surrounding an object, passing on the information to their neighbours to re create a replica of the three dimensional object surrounded by the primary group. Even better, the cubes can be endlessly recycled as when the duplicate object is no longer needed the cubes can be amassed back into a meaningless heap again. Share on Facebook

Mobile Phone Lumia 900 is here to stay. Lumia 900 is here thanks once again to the Finland Company Nokia. This is great news for the mobile phone giant that is presenting this device at a low cost and a streamlined design with a front-facing camera for video conferencing. This is putting it on the same playing field as the likes of Samsung and Apple that now have a battle on their hands. An AT&T person said, “The Lumia has received tremendous product reviews and we have been taking pre-orders online”, he continued with, “and in our stores all week”, said Mr M. Siegel. You cannot forget how it won the Best Smartphone award in January 2012 at the Consumer Electronics Show 2012. Share on Facebook

The government has finally agreed that creative and motivating ICT classes be reintroduced to the classroom by teaching children to program and put computer science back in the core of ICT lessons. The Secretary of State for Education, Michael Gove is reported as saying that the present ICT curriculum was ‘demotivating and dull’. Advising Mr Gove on implementing changes is Ian Livingstone, co-author of Next Gen, a report written in 2011 which focussed on the current trend of poor quality computing lessons in schools. Eric Schmidt executive chairman of Google commented during his lecture in Edinburg in August 2011 that in his opinion not to teach computer science, as detailed in the Next Gen report, was throwing away our heritage. Sunday evening’s BBC technology program ‘Click’ reported on how the excitement of the early 1980s, with the first computers being introduced in schools and pupils being encouraged to write their own simple programs to see for themselves just what was possible had sadly given way to today’s lessons which mainly involve learning to use computer software programs such as Powerpoint. ‘In the 1980s children were inspired to create technology where as today all they do is use technology’ said Mr [...]
