The Department of Telecoms in India is making changes to its service providers where all software modified is to be kept on file for atleast ten years. This is ofcourse good news for the consumer as service providers will be held accountable when an issue arises further down line where the software changes held for ten years back can be bought to the required attention.
The department said to the operators, “All the licensees should maintain the record, of what software changes/updation were made”, continuing with, “and why were these necessitated besides who made the changes and when changes were made, for a period of 10 years.”
No doubt this move will encourage other countries to follow giving a better outcome for the consumer all-round.
