US Drones Hit By Virus
Thursday October 13th 2011, 2:36 pm
America’s remote controlled flight drones, the Predator and Reaper drones which fly hunt missions over Pakistan, Afghanistan and Yemen, have been hit by a computer virus and system specialists can’t seem to get rid of it.
The virus has infected Creech Air Force base in Nevada from where the robotic machines fly globally, Los Angeles Times reported. But, a media report said so far the virus hasn’t hindered global missions of the drones and there’s been no leak of classified information.
The infection, first reported by Wired magazine two weeks back is allegedly logging pilots’ every keystroke as they carry out the missions.
The virus has remained on the drones’ computer organization despite multiple efforts to take away it. “We keep wiping it off, and it keeps coming back… We think it’s benign,” Wired magazine reported.
“Military network security specialists aren’t sure whether the virus and its so-called ‘keylogger’ payload were introduced intentionally or by accident; it may be a common piece of malware that just happened to make its way into these susceptible networks,” the magazine said.
The specialists don’t know accurately how far the virus has spread. Something is going on, but it has not suffered any collision on the missions overseas.

Google Updates Docs App for Android Tablets
Monday October 10th 2011, 11:17 am
Software developer Google has modernized its Google Docs app for Android devices to formulate use of the extra screen space on tablets.
Google’s modernized Google Docs app enables Android tablet owners running Honeycomb or above to cover a significantly customized layout that the firm says makes better use of the augmented screen space available on tablets.
David Loxton, product manager at Google said, “With an entirely new design, we’ve customized the look to make the most of the larger screen space on tablets. The layout includes a three-panel view, which allows you to navigate through filters and collections, view your document list, and see document details, all at once.”
Google also claimed that the auto-complete feature makes it better to split documents, though some are complaining that there is still a lack of collaboration features in the Android version of Google Docs.
Although Google’s update might seem negligible in the grand scheme of things, it highlights the variation between smart phones and tablets and how apps are viewed on each type of gadget. Effective use of screen space is not really about making on-screen objects bigger or cramming in more information, but how to navigate, display and aggregate information in a levelheaded and useful approach.
Google also said it has made its Google Docs for Android tablets update available in 46 languages.
