bullet UK Cyber Weapons
Tuesday May 31st 2011, 12:35 pm

The UK Cabinet Office and the Cyber Security Operations Centre at GCHQ has announced commencement of work on a comprehensive range of offensive cyber weapons.

Nick Harvey, Armed Forces minister, is quoted as saying that action in cyberspace will form part of the future battlefield and that a toolbox of capabilities was needed.

Cyber attack has become a global and present threat. Last week major US weapons developer, Lockheed Martin, suffered a considerable and tenacious cyber attack. Sony and Google also came under attack in 2010.

A major concern with cyber attack is the huge scope for entire country damage and disruption possible with digital networks controlling all transport, power and communications systems, and the perpetrator being anyone from a major governmental body to a single student hacker.

General Jonathan Shaw from the Parachute Regiment was recently appointed to head a defence cyber-operations group at the Ministry of Defence. The MoD will in time adding their input to the work presently being put in place by GCHQ.

bullet We all cant see 3D say Eyecare Trust but what about 4D?
Wednesday July 14th 2010, 3:24 pm

It has been claimed by Eyecare Trust that not all of us can see through 3D, Eyecare record a figure of 6 Million that cannot. Now is this an actual issue as most will not care, after all unless you are specifically into 3D Graphical Performance. How many of the 6 Million would like to watch 3D?

The 6 Million have potentially poor binocular vision therefore causing headaches after watching in 3D.

Eyecare Trust said, “our brains are unable to correctly process the individual images that are transmitted to it via our left and right eyes.”

All the leading players such as Nintendo and Sony are creating 3D effects and it is only going to accelerate. One solution is to invest further and for businesses to find a way for people with poor binocular vision to see 3D comfortably. The solution would allow them to tap into the 6 Million market.

Can people with poor binocular vision see 4D then I expect they will have the same problem?

Eycare Trust is a UK based Charity.

bullet The e-book experience needs improving as it is no so fast after all!
Wednesday July 07th 2010, 9:32 am

Continuous research from the Nielsen Norman Group is establishing that e-books are slower to read then printed books. There is much truth in this as when looking at a screen more energy is absorbed then when looking at printed books. Many feel that when you sit down and relax with a book it is something special as opposed to winding down to an e-book.

Research has found that when reading from an Apple iPad you would read six percent slower and when using a kindle it is ten percent slower, this finding is from a report written by Dr Jakob Nielsen who said, “the difference between the two devices was not statistically significant because of the data’s fairly high variability”.

The embedded software in creating the applications to view an e-book may need some new thought to match or even better the experience with a printed book. When technology has moved tremendously in the last 5 years in another 5 years our technology experts may have the answers bettering our printed book experiance.

There will always be a certain inner core group of people that would not switch from a printed book to a hardware device but findings from the Giant Sony indicates this is only 5 years away, this many be very unlikely as the experience in winding down to a book will always be something for example winding down at a beach on holiday – well books are so much more portable etc.
